By  Football Pulp - 25 April 2017

It was a happy day for Newcastle United as they thrashed Preston by four goals to one. Rafa Benitez’s side has now secured a place back in the English top flight. Brighton was the first Championship team to get promoted to the Premier League this season, followed by Toons.

Ayoze Perez scored the opener in the 7th minute of the match. Preston struck back with a thunderous strike from Jordan Hugill, seven minutes after Newcastle scored.

Just at the edge of half-time, Christian Atsu put Newcastle ahead to make it 2-1 at halftime.

Preston’s resistance was shattered with their captain Paul Gallagher’s handball in the 63rd minute. It resulted in a red card for him and a goal from the spot for Ritchie.

Perez’s short range goal right after that penalty made it 4-1, taking his season tally to 25 goals.

Fans were overjoyed near the end of full time and were chanting ‘Sunderland's going down and the Mags are going up’.
