Conte Responds to Mourinho’s Tactical Dig!

By  Football Pulp - 13 March 2017

Premier League leaders, Chelsea, will welcome the Red Devils tonight for the FA Cup quarter final bout. But before the teams face-off in the stadium, Chelsea’s boss, Antonio Conte, has responded in a very cool and composed manner to the tactical dig his counterpart and former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, took recently.

Jose Mourinho, in an interview, stated without referring to Chelsea that the route to success this season has been the impressive counter-attacking ability of the sides. Jose Mourinho blatantly played defensive tactics down and praised counterattack as an impressive way to get up the ladder board – but he was smart enough to not take any names.

We have already witnessed Jose throw small punches at his compatriots in the past as well. How can we forget his verbal rivalry with Arsene Wenger? But this time, instead of blaming another team, he kind of performed an analysis. Manchester United will be traveling to Stamford Bridge tonight to face the Blues in the knock-out, and we can understand the concern!

“It looks like this season to be phenomenal defensively and good in counter attack is art,” – Jose Mourinho

This was the latest in the series of digs Jose Mourinho took at his former club with whom he won the Premier League twice.

Antonio Conte also took advantage of this opportunity to reply to Mourinho’s suggestion, saying:

“I have to tell you one thing. Not only here [at Chelsea] but I never, ever train for the counterattack,”

“Never prepare for the counterattack. I think the counterattack is an option, above all, if you have this type of player, players who are very, very fast.”

‘Also Costa is a counterattacking man, and Willian and Pedro. It’s normal to have this situation with space, so they know what they can do.”

“It’s very difficult to train counterattacking but it’s not my priority.”

Well, things seem to be heating up as the two sides prepare to take on each other in an all-important bout tonight. Conte’s side has had an indifferent start to the season, but with a 16-match winning streak, Chelsea is ten points clear at the top. Manchester United is also enjoying an impressive unbeaten run, closing the gap on the top four.

The striking woes for Manchester United have grown intense. Ibrahimovic is suspended and Rooney, Martial, and Rashford aren’t available for tonight’s game due to injury, as confirmed by BBC.
