With just a goal away from topping the Premier Legaue charts, Romelu Lukaku has been linked with moves away from Goodison Park. However, Ronald Koeman believes that the improved performance may help him convince the Belgian striker to stay. The Toffees were drowning after losing to Merseyside rivals, Liverpool, but since then the team has been unbeaten in seven consecutive matches and are sitting seventh on the table.
Lukaku has scored 16 goals so far in this campaign and is on the rise with offers coming from big clubs, including his former club, Chelsea. Despite all these rumors, the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, claimed earlier this month that the striker is up for a contract extension and will sign a new deal with the Toffees. Koeman is still unsure about the accuracy of this news but has welcomed the development.

"If the club and team is improving and showing ambition then it is always a good way for players to stay," Koeman said ahead of Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough.
According to Koeman, he is making efforts to convince Lukaku about his future and that it lies with Everton, even if it’s for a short span. And, if a team is performing exceptionally well for a period and is showing signs of improvement, the player might find it viable to stay.
Romelu Lukaku is fifth on the list of highest goal scorers before 24, he is just 23. Well, with 76 goals to his name, he can easily overcome the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney, and Fowler and challenge the record set by Owen.
The Belgian strike force wasn’t praised much for his talent at Stamford Bridge but after joining Everton, he has been a force to be reckoned with. Playing at a top level, scoring goals on regular basis and being on the top is what a striker is all about, and Lukaku has all that under his belt. However, his ability and urge for more may force him to find a new challenge and play at an even bigger level. The desire to play in the UEFA Champions League, the biggest stage of all, is always there if you are a top striker but sometimes, your contribution can change the grounds for the team you are playing for.
Lukaku for Everton has been a similar story as he has helped the team grow big and improve consistently. Lukaku is good at the front but he needs to improve his all-round game. At the start of the season, it was looking that Everton will fight for the crown, and while they are at a low rank, they are still favorites to seal the allocated spot for UEFA Champions League.
"I didn't speak to the board about Romelu. If his agent mentioned that he likes to stay and is close or will sign a new a deal then that is perfect for Everton. We know everybody has his own ambition, that is normal, that is a human being. We like to keep the good players and he is one of them.”
He added: "Improving always starts with yourself. He is really a world-class finisher but in other detail, in other qualities, he can and must improve. He knows and that is the most important thing."

Earlier this month, Lukaku leaving Goodison Park was on the cards but Raiola has confirmed that a contract extension is almost done. Well, only time will tell about Lukaku’s future at Goodison Park but for now, the Toffees can take a sigh of relief as the player is with them.
