Ligue 1 Matchweek 7 Review

By  Football Pulp - 27 September 2016

Contrary to the poplar prediction, the holders PSG were leapfrogged by the ambitious Toulouse in a typically one-sided affair. In the other round of fixtures, OGC Nice maintained their unbeaten run, clinching another victory, while Monaco sealed a narrow win over Angers.

Ligue 1 has completed 7 Matchweeks and is headed smoothly towards the interval. There was no stopping for OGC Nice and Monaco, but Dijon and Marseille made the highlights with their remarkable victories. Both teams had a frustrating few weeks in the start but managed to bounce back with confidence and securing three crucial points.

Faltering Olympique Lyon

At the other end of the spectrum, Lyon fell in Lorient, losing a crucial tie before their important fixture against Sevilla in the Champions League. Furthermore, Bordeaux were held by Caen for a 0-0 draw, keeping them on the 5th place with 13 points.

Montpelier Flirting

Montpellier had another frustrating evening as they failed to win again against FC Metz. The side has failed to win since Matchweek 1 and after successive defeats; the side is almost nearing the drop zone.

A New Flare

Saint-Etienne offered a different display of football and grabbed a comfortable 3-1 win over LOSC. The team broke its habit of clinching narrow victories and leaving it for late by dominating the game against a side that is already placed in the bottom half.

Bumpy Ride for Stade Rennais

Matchweek 7 saw some surprising results as Stade Rennais continued their hot and cold form, losing against a side low on confidence. Christian Gourcuff's men stunned Marseille in a thrilling encounter last week but failed to optimize on the win, while Dijon regrouped after receiving tough treatment from the holders.

Toulouse 2-0 PSG

Toulouse became the second team this season to inflict defeat on the defending champions, PSG. The defeat pushed the holders to the third place, just behind Monaco and Nice. PSG will have to come up with a strong plan to safeguard their throne and sustain their dominance in France.

Team of the Week

After their miserable performance against PSG last week, the team came up solid against Rennes with a spectacular win. The team is currently fighting in the relegation battle and these points will be crucial in their battle.
