Ligue 1 Matchday 14 Review

By  Umair Asif - 29 November 2016

Matchday 14 in Ligue 1 saw Monaco and PSG closing the gap at the top. Nice is still leading the tally, with just one point difference.

Rennes defeated Toulouse in an all-important fixture, making two losses in a row for Toulouse. However, Nice was held for a draw at home by Bastia that may have stunned many. PSG secured a crucial away-win against Lyn, whereas Marseille could not build on the momentum and failed miserably against Monaco. ASSE and Bordeaux also won their matches after a tough fight. Both teams are in search for reserving their European spots. All in all, another exciting weekend in Ligue 1 concluded leaving behind an air of uncertainty. Matchday 15 will be very exciting as Monaco and PSG will be hoping to dethrone OGC Nice.

Fixture of the Week

Metz 3-3 Lorient

Metz hosted the bottom-placed Lorient and given the poor form they are in, it was obvious that Metz will get through with this one comfortably. However, Lorient rolled out a brilliant attack and earned a crucial away point from this six-goal thriller.

Team of the Round

Bordeaux

The team started off well but failed to capitalize on the impressive start. Bordeaux are now making substantial efforts to bounce back. A draw against Guingamp on Matchday 13 showed positive signs, but the team was derailed against visitors, Dijon. Before things got worse, the team was able to draw back to basics and registered an impressive win.

Player of the Week

Martin Braithwaite

The Danish striker is leading Toulouse in the right direction and has been their main gun with seven goals and two assists. He is the leading goal scorer for the club and is playing a pivotal role in keeping Toulouse’s hopes for claiming a European spot alive.
