Ligue 1 Matchday 12 Preview

By  Umair Asif - 3 November 2016

We are now in November and Ligue 1 is progressing with the same pace and flair. Matchday 11 saw Lyon bouncing back, with Guingamp and Rennes making their way in top 5.  That being sad, a win for PSG is crucial along with hoping that OGC Nice loses points. But with the quality football being played this time round, the task seems viciously difficult.

Ligue 1 Matchday 12 is also immensely important for every side equally; those contesting for the crown and also for those fighting for survival. Lorient and Nancy are the sides with under most pressure as they are way behind their counterparts and are deeply condensed in the relegation zone. So, if they won’t pick it now, it will be too late for them.

In the contrasting affairs, the title race is becoming even more intense with Monaco and PSG sitting firmly at 2nd and 3rd respectively on level points. However, OGC Nice is yet to taste defeat and is enjoying the pole position. But its competitive football, and here fortune changes in a blink. Just to recall, the famous “Gerrard slip” in EPL is the biggest example.

Let’s take you through to what Ligue 1 Matchday 12 holds for you:

Fixture of the Round

PSG V Rennes

It’s the 3rd versus the 5th and a win is significant for both the sides. PSG will move closer to the league leaders, OGC Nice, whereas Rennes will be able to level on points with PSG. So, such a crucial tie in the current scenario is surely not to miss. PSG will be at home and have the all important task, that is already very stiff, to retain the crown. Rennes has had a quiet season so far, but has been prolific throughout.

Team to Look At

Toulouse

After a shocking home defeat at the hands of Lyon last week, Toulouse is still sitting firmly at the 6th spot. However, the team has conceded 9 goals so far but is lacking in the attacking terms, which is a concerning point. This week, Toulouse will be facing Nantes away from home and a win will pump the squad to be in the automatic European qualification zone.

Player to Watch

Radamel Falcao scored a brace last night to help his side score a win over CSKA Moscow in Champions League. The prolific striker was once a force to reckon with; unfortunately, he had a few bad seasons and people started writing him off. However, last night he proved his worth and is expected to grow big after this.
