La Liga Matchweek 6 Review

La Liga Matchweek 6 produced a mixed bag of results where the giants, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, dominated their opponents while the leaders, Real Madrid, dropped points for the second straight week. The gap between the top three has tightened after Matchweek 6 but Real still leads the table with 14 points.

The week produced some unexpected results, but the enthusiasm of fans across Spain remained the same. As the days are progressing, the league is getting more interesting and intense, and the top three contenders need to be more accurate in their approach. There’s no room for any blunders and the holders, Barça, will have to gear up and lift their game or risk being dethroned.

Real Betis 1-0 Malaga

Real Betis edged past Malaga with a 1 goal victory. Joaquin goal gave the host their lead in the 25th minute, which was maintained till the end.

Eibar 2-0 Real Sociedad

Eibar announced its supremacy over the local rivals with a 2-0 victory. The visitors were reduced to ten men and despite missing the penalty, Eibar managed to take the lead with Illarramendi’s own goal, which was doubled by Bebe in the 66th minute.

Sporting Gijon 0-5 Barcelona

Sporting Gijon was left outmatched by Barcelona, netting 5 goals against the minnows. The absence of Messi did no harm to the Catalans and they broke the deadlock just before the half-hour and went on to demolish Gijon’s defense on numerous occasions.

Athletic Club 3-1 Sevilla

Athletic club finally put a full stop to Sevilla’s unbeaten run with a dominating 3-1 victory. Sevilla is still chasing an away victory since May 2015, and their form is declining as the league is progressing.

Las Palmas 2-2 Real Madrid

The presence of Ronaldo made no difference for the Bernabau outfit and they were held for a 2-2 draw by Las Palmas. The visitors took the lead but the host had the last word. Las Palmas has impressed a lot this season.

Leganes 1-2 Valencia

Back-to-back victories for Valencia have boosted the moral of the squad that was lost after 4 consecutive defeats. Another impressive performance helped Valencia move out of the relegation zone.

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Deportivo La Coruna

Atletico Madrid is living up to the expectations, delivering back-to-back impressive performances. Simeone will be pleased to see his side winning ahead of their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

Villarreal 3-1 Osasuna

The yellow army is on the roll, bagging another victory and settling themselves in the top four.  Villarreal left no hope for Osasuna and scored three goals to grab 3 vital points. 

Espanyol 0-2 Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo defeated Espanyol at home and left the home crowd shocked. Three crucial points for Celta Vigo saw them move up the table.  

Alaves 3-1 Granada

Alaves have optimized the form they earned form their victory over Barcelona and used the same form to destroy Granada 3-1 in the last encounter of Matchweek 6.
