La Liga Matchday 7 Review

Full round of fixtures were played during La Liga Matchday 7, before the international break kicked in, which saw Atletico Madrid taking firm hold of the top spot. The real shocker of the week was when Celta Vigo stunned Barça in a 7-goal thriller. On the other hand, Real Madrid still weren’t able to end their frustrating run of draws. The defeat saw the Catalans move down to the fourth spot, while Sevilla earned a victory, making their way back to the top four.

The fight at the top is getting intense in Spain and like every other league in Europe; La Liga is no more a three-horse race. Sevilla and Atletico Madrid were the only two sides to register a win in Matchday 7. With only 4 points separating the top 8 sides, excitement is guaranteed in this year’s La Liga. Let’s take you through what happened in each fixture: 

Real Sociedad 1 – 0 Real Betis

A much-needed victory for Sociedad helped them secure a place in the top half of the table. A close fight between the two sides ended in the favor of the home side.

Granada 0 – 1 Leganes

Granada once again missed their chance to secure a win as they lost to Leganes at home. The win was vital for the visitors as they wanted to stay far from the relegation zone.

Sevilla 2 – 1 Alaves

Sevilla was desperate for a win and it got it by edging past Alaves. Alaves failed to impress against Sevilla but showcased a strong performance away from home.

Osasuna 2 – 2 Las Palmas

Osasuna grabbed a crucial point against Las Palmas, a team that has been influential so far.

Deportivo 2 – 1 Sporting Gijon

After an impressive start to the season, Sporting lost its way with back-to-back defeats. The side is lurking in the relegation battle, whereas Deportivo secured three crucial points to move north on the table.

Valencia 0 – 2 Atletico Madrid

Valencia could not hold on to their winning run and lost to Atletico Madrid at home. The win allowed Atletico to move to the top of the table.

Real Madrid 1 – 1 Eibar

The frustrating run of draws for Los Blancos continues. The minnows, Eibar, registered an early goal against Real who then equalized in the 17th minute to secure a point. 

Espanyol 0 – 0 Villarreal

A frustrating night for both the sides ended with them settling for a point each. However, Villarreal is still in contention for the European spot whereas Espanyol is still at the bottom half of the table.

Malaga 2 – 1 Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbo lost 3 crucial points against Malaga and the result justifies their unpredictability. 

Celta Vigo 4 – 3 FC Barcelona

Celta Vigo wrapped up the Matchday displaying strong performance against the holders, Barcelona. The most shocking result of the Matchday indeed!
