The First All-Chinese Milan Derby

By  Football Pulp - 14 April 2017

This weekend, two of the greatest teams in European club football, Inter Milan and AC Milan, will take on each other in the first all-Chinese Milan Derby. With a total of 10 Champions League triumphs, 36 Serie A titles, and eight world record transfers between the two clubs, Milan Derby was once considered the greatest rivalry in football. However, both teams are now a shadow of their former selves.

The Serie A giant, AC Milan, will be hoping to kick-start their new life under Chinese ownership by defeating their arch rival. Both clubs have now been taken over by Chinese investors who have wiped the debts and are desperate to bring the long lost glory back to Milan.

Rossoneri Sport Investment Lux has taken over AC Milan for a reported £628 million, with aims to make AC Milan a leading European side once again. Inter’s Chinese investors, Suning Group, has already shown similar intentions and have finalized big plans to restore the club’s glory.

The two sides last met five months ago at San Siro, and Ivan Perisic’s equalizer spoiled the night for AC Milan. Vincenzo Montella, AC Milan’s coach, has said that his side is prepared for this tie and won’t make the same mistakes again. Both teams are equipped with quality players but have failed to impress as a unit.

AC Milan have more realistic chances of finding a European spot this season, but with only two points separating the two sides, a win for Inter can make things interesting.

Inter Milan’s Europa League hopes were dented by two back-to-back defeats, but Stefano Pioli insists that his side is not under pressure and can bounce back strongly.
