Brazil were humiliated 7-1 by Germany in World Cup Semis in 2014, the last time the host played at Belo Horizonte – but thanks to an energized performance by Neymar and Coutinho, the host have a new memory to recall.
The arch rivals, Brazil and Argentina, were up against each other in World Cup 2018 Qualifier. Looking at the strengths of the squads and examining the history of this tie, no one expected this to turn out to be a one-sided affair. Well, Coach Tite will be more than just impressed by his side as they take their winning streak to 5. On the contrary, Lionel Messi’s Argentina stumbled once again.
Both the sides were hoping to be pro-active but it was Coutinho who broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, supplementing the host with the lead. Neymar made it 2 for the host in the 45th minute and Paulinho had the last say, scoring the third and the final goal in the 59th minute. They were simply ballistic and the wrath of their on-field presence was felt by the Argentineans as they had no answer.

This tie had longer handshakes than usual as Champions League titans were divided, but in the end it was Brazilian samba that came on top. Messi and Company were under real pressure before the tie as it was a must-win game for them but now they’ll have to be on top against Colombia in their next match.
Stating the obvious, Brazil’s attack was unstoppable as Man City duo of Otamendi and Zabaleta kept on stumbling. Once gain Higuain’s inclusion to the playing 11 left lots of doubts and Edgardo Bauza will have a lot to think about. This defeat has increased Argentina’s desperation to win as they keep on struggling, whereas Brazil sits on the top with 5 successive wins.

Brazil had bad memories at Belo Horizonte but not anymore as they now have something to cheer about. A well-crafted, comfortable win for Brazil in the end but Argentina has work to do if they want to keep their chances to qualify for the World Cup. Well. Messi must be thinking to reinstate his decision of retirement.
