Aguero or Falcao: Who Will Be More Lethal?

By  Football Pulp - 21 February 2017

Manchester City will host Monaco tonight for the UEFA Champions League” Round of 16” tie. With Bayern destroying Arsenal last week, all eyes are on Pep Guardiola’s Man City, as they are expected to be more dominant.  If that does not happens, the title of “The best league in the world” will sound nothing more than a joke without a punch line. With Arsenal losing to Bayern last week and the Champions of England, Leicester, scheduled to take on Sevilla, Pep Guardiola must be feeling the burden of hopes.

Before the game beings, let’s just get through some quick facts to assess who has the better chance.

  • Monaco is sitting at the top of Ligue 1, while Manchester City is second in the Premier League, eight points behind the leaders, Chelsea.
  • Monaco is the highest goal-scoring team in Europe’s leading leagues with 76 goals in 28 games.
  • Pep Guardiola has an impressive record in the tournament, winning the trophy twice with Barcelona.
  • Man City has scored more than three goals in half of their group matches.
  • This will be the first time both sides will compete against each other in history.

With Vincent Kompany out of the view, and such an impressive goal-scoring record, the nets at Etihad will be definitely bulging. However, both sides have been very impressive recently with their defensive form, and with Willy Caballero keeping the guards for Man City, the side from Manchester has a decent chance to prevail against Leonardo Jardim’s Monaco.

That’s what the media is saying about the match, and if you want to put some bets on it, you can seek help from these facts. Both sides are equipped with two of the most prolific strikers in the game – Radamel Falcao and Sergio Aguero!

Hailing from South America, the two were together at Atletico Madrid, and both made a name for themselves playing for Diego Simone’s side. This is the reason why they were priced very high. However, the career path for both the players hasn’t been the same. Falcao was a bit inconsistent in his approach and has switched ends quite often, whereas Sergio Aguero has committed his best to Man City.

But who will be more lethal in tonight’s game?

Radamel Falcao has been a goal scoring machine this season, scoring 19 goals in 25 appearances for Monaco. His recent performances display the talent he possesses and it seems he didn’t lose a bit of it. Last season, he was terrible with his feet and hapless playing for Manchester United and Chelsea. He managed to score only four goals in 29 appearances for the Red Devils, while for Chelsea, he barely appeared.

For Sergio Aguero, it’s been a weird season so far. The Argentinean started the season well, but injuries and ill-disciplined dilemmas forced him to spend most of the time on the bench. Scoring more than ten goals in the first half of the season, Aguero was out of the side mainly due to injuries, but the arrival of Gabriel Jesus seemed a significant threat to him. With the Brazilian sensation out of the equation due to his ankle injury, the lethal strike force, Aguero, has a chance to remind everyone what he’s capable of doing and how important he is to the side. It’s more likely that Aguero will star tonight’s game.

Falcao is in a terrific goal-scoring form, whereas Aguero will have his first start in four weeks. The edge lies with Falcao, but the Argentinean is the fastest to reach 100 goals mark in the Premier League and has been backed well by the likes of Silva, De Bruyne, and Sterling. Well, it’s said that scoring goals in France are easy, but Monaco knocked out Arsenal last season. Will they be able to surpass Man City challenge this time around? Only time will tell who succeeds but for now we are expecting a blistering encounter at Etihad tonight.

Guardiola’s experience and Aguero’s class both will need to be lethal against the high-flying Monaco. With Premier League title already looking out of their reach, winning the Champions League in his first season as Man City manager, Pep Guardiola’s appointment can be considered a success.
